Chronic Anxiety Disorder In Children

Chronic anxiety disorder in children is extremely difficult for both child and parents. If you suspect that your child has a problem, it's best to check it out quickly.

Anxiety disorders are troubling, worrying and disturbing. It always feels like you can never get better or make progress. This, though understandable, is not true.

Is There Proof Anxiety Is Biological?

There's a lot of research that is going into anxiety disorders with some startling leads that will hopefully open up more awareness regarding mental health.

For example, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD)might be affected by a gene called SAPAP3. In the not too distant future, perhaps it would be easier to treat these illnesses with a better and quicker chance of recovery.

It's possible that chronic anxiety in children can lead to depression. Depression is a terrible thing to go through even for an adult and no child should have to go through this - but they do.

An anxiety disorder can unfortunately return, even many years later. There's also a possibility that a child of a parent who also has an anxiety disorder are more likely to develop it.

Anxiety is a normal part of life, whether you're a child or an adult. However, when you're a child and it affects or restricts your lifestyle, you may have an anxiety disorder. A child's childhood may be taken away.

It's particularly difficult for both child and parents because it can be difficult to spot or even understand. There seems to be a stigma attached to mental issues. It almost seems like it's the victim's fault'.

Parents may generally be unwilling to be open to the possibility that their child has an anxiety disorder. They may think that their child will 'grow out of it'. Please seek help. It's vital that you do.

The Prognosis Is Generally Good

Treatment is not only available, but the outcome is good. Children will need support and encouragement to help their confidence grow. Medication and therapy help a great deal.

Group therapy is also good, as the child can see he/she is not alone. Chronic anxiety disorder in children can be overcome with help. Children should be free and happy and their childhood should not be taken away by an illness that may not be preventable, but is certainly treatable.
