Mother Daughter Panic Attack

No one knows the the cause of panic disorder. However, research does indicate that a mother daughter panic attack link does indicate strongly that it can be passed on.

The incidence of a mother daughter panic attack can be quite high. Panic disorder occurs twice as much in women. It's very likely that the causes are both biological and psychological.

Daughters who are predisposed to panic disorder are quite likely to get a panic disorder from their mothers. Basically, this means that if it was meant to happen to you, then it probably will!

Other people may go through a panic attack but their reaction would be different. Someone predisposed to panic will eventually start fearing the next attack. They begin to avoid situations. Agoraphobia develops!

Life Changes

A panic attack can occur as a result of a major change in a person's life. Examples of these can be a traumatic experience, like the death of a loved one, or giving birth. This could help explain why women suffer more from panic attacks.

Then again, it can occur out of the blue, for no apparent reason. When the reason is unclear, it is difficult to understand for the woman, which makes it that much more frightening.

There is strong evidence to suggest that a daughter of a woman who suffers from panic attacks is six times as likely to go on and develop panic attacks herself.

Fortunately, there is help available for these women (and men). Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is a common method used by doctors and therapists. Reading books on the subject will help to educate you.

Be Open To Alternative Treatments

Never close the door on alternative methods of therapy either. Not only do they work, but can also be better for you. Not everyone likes taking drugs, which is why they turn to other methods like:

Hypnosis

Tapes or cds

Homeopathy/Herbal Remedies

Yoga

The Linden Method

Panic Away

The above methods have been very successful in helping many, many people improve and even get over their panic, anxiety and stress.

If you're feeling helpless, don't be. Use the help available. If something doesn't work, try something else. Even drugs are the same. If a drug has no effect, you may have to take another. Find something that works for you. You can beat this!
